Anniversary Gift

06 Thursday Apr 2017

For you, I’d face a hurricane,

I’d tolerate any kind of pain,

Because you are my fine champagne!

It seems like we’ve faced a living hell,

But we’ve survived it very well,

Because together it’s just a bagatelle!

With you, my life is quite complete,

I feel refreshed, I feel replete,

We are a force of nature that can’t be beat!

It seemed like our path was set uphill;

But we’ve braved the worst of the old treadmill,

And we are together, and laughing still!!

This anniversary is known as leather,

And we know that we can always weather

Anything as long as we are together

This is just the smallest clue,

That you are both my rock and glue,

And, that darling, I love you!

Winter Clings On

It was one of those dazzling days

Of blue, blue skies,

And green, green shoots,

When you know,

The minute you step through the door,

The air will freeze in your lungs,

As you are hit by the short,

Sharp shock of winter,

Proudly raising its head and

Refusing to submit to the Spring.

The Goat’s Beard plant

Clung to the youthful tree,

Like a muffler, a buffer,

Against the chill…

Our Future

You and I were meant to be,

I am yours, you belong to me,

We’re as obvious as A,B, C,

Despite trauma and adversity.

You’re my soulmate, this I know,

I thought I’d lost you! Where’d you go?

We agreed to meet, so please just show,

Or my emotions will overflow.

This is the time and this the place,

I search the crowds for your sweet face,

When I see you, my heart will race,

And I will long for that first embrace.

And then, oh then, I catch a sight,

Of you, and I know that it’s all right,

I cling to you with all my might,

This world of us – our future’s bright!

You and I, from world’s apart,

Share one steady, beating heart,

So, my love, let’s make a start,

For you are my counterpart…

Rumi’s words are very wise,

He scatters falsehoods, exposes lies.

He expounds an eternal truth,

True in old age, as in youth,

So, dear reader, please take heed,

Love is really all you need.

The Devil’s Birthday

It was the Devil’s birthday,

He had a birthday cake,

He’d thrown his weight, he’d had his say,

With drought, and flood, and quake.

O’er all there was a hellish hue,

Of orange, carmine red,

His guests were all just passing through,

Those known as the undead.

Satan likes to celebrate,

He likes to have his fun,

You simply can’t negotiate,

So watch out everyone!

Cinderella’s Slipper

Cinderella lost her shoe,

But she lost a pumpkin too!

A slice of it was still part carriage,

And needed to effect a marriage!

She found it buried in a glade,

This vehicle clearly fairy-made.

And lured the prince there, with her shoe,

And well, what IS a man to do?

He married her, of course, right then,

Any children? Last count, ten!

A Shattered World

You left me with the debris

Of a shattered world and heart,

One day we were together,

The next we were apart.

No trace of you excepting

Those things you left behind,

I find it hard accepting,

All my boundaries redefined.

No longer is there you and I,

No longer is there us,

Just pain hard to identify,

Or even to discuss.

And this, the gift I gave you,

Just thrown upon my desk,

Now makes me feel that I must view

Our life together as grotesque.

For I don’t think that I to you

Was what you were to me,

It seems that I was passing through

A page of your history.

Something you have chosen to put back upon the shelf,

Leaving me to feel I no longer have a sense of self.

A splash of water

A blue flame

A souffle of clouds

A startle of doves

A shoal of fish

Thought bubbles

Frights of ghosts

All come to mind

When presented

A Farewell To Summer

We went down to the water,

I went with my son,

It was a day full of sunshine,

Of laughter, of fun.

We swam in the ocean,

We played by the shore,

We found beautiful shells

On the generous seafloor.

We stayed until sunset,

When the shadows grew long,

It was our farewell to summer,

Our final swan song.
