There were footprints in the sand,
To the water’s edge,
Where they disappeared.
And they intrigued me.
Who had left this trail?
Walked the walk?
Where were they going?
Who did they meet?
All unanswered questions,
From an anonymous friend…

Of peaks and troughs
One man walking
Along a shifting spine
A sandy backbone
His footsteps leaving
Ghostly traces
Of his passage
Along the dune
