A’s For Anita

It is our first wedding anniversary today so I wanted to mark the occasion with a poem for my beautiful wife, Anita-Clare.

A’s for amour, for passion, for love,

As when my hand fits yours like a comfortable glove.

A’s for affection, for instant rapport,

For that fatal attraction, well you know the score.

A’s for the ambition to be by your side,

We are open and honest, there’s nothing to hide.

A’s for arrival, the moment we met,

A bolt from the blue I’ve not recovered from yet.

A’s for Anita, the love of my life,

My soulmate, my succour, my lover, my wife.

if I train my tree

To grow

And show

The space that

Once was my heart

And is now

Filled with you

Will you settle

In its shade?

I was 18 when I met you,
And you were 22,
I loved your sense of humour,
And those stunning eyes of blue.
We waited to get married,
Until I was 21,
But spent each day together,
Surprising everyone.
And now we celebrate our grandchild,
Whose wedding is today,
And we could make our vows again,
Because our feelings still hold sway.
I’m now an ancient 88,
And you are 92,
But I may as well be in my teens,
Because, darling, I love you.

I’ve walked the universe you to find,
Look back and I am right behind.
There for comfort and support,
To anticipate your every thought.
Your my backbone, I’ll be yours,
To help you settle any scores,
I’d walk through fire to set you free,
To show you what you mean to me.
There’s nothing that I wouldn’t do,
To let your talents shine on through.
You are thoughtful, loving, kind,
A gem like you is hard to find.
I know my faults and there are many,
But in you I just cannot find any.
You are so brilliant yet insecure,
So darling I want to make you sure,
Sure I’ll be here, right by your side,
To support you through a bumpy ride,
But also to share your triumphs too,
Because, my darling, I love you.

What Love Is

When I think about what love is
My heart turns over, my blood starts to fizz.
When I am asked what love represents
I say it takes over in every sense.
So what exactly is it that love involves?
It’s someone around whom your world revolves.
It’s someone who makes you feel safe and warm,
Protected and sheltered, a port in a storm.
I love your eyes, I love your skin,
Where your body ends, there I begin.

All In

I’m all in.
Not defeated, exhausted,
Flat on the floor,
But
Totally devoted to you.

I’m all in.
Not desperately or hopefully
Gambling my chips on one hand,
But
Joyfully investing in you.

I’m all in.
Not inside you,
To the exclusion of all else,
But
Completely supportive of you.

I’m all in,
Not over-confident,
Or bluffing,
But
Openly opening my heart.

I’m all in,
Not sure I deserve it,
Or am half the person you are,
But
I am fully committed to you.

If My Love…

This poem is for my beautiful wife, Anita-Clare, the love of my life. How fortunate we were to find each other.

If my love were like an ocean,
It would come in but never retreat.
I would show you my constant devotion,
By laying it here, at your feet.

If my love were like a mountain,
It would be a peak I longed to climb,
It would bathe you like a fountain,
And stand the test of time.

If my love were like a river, long,
It would flow joyfully from its source,
It would be, like a melody or song,
Full of vigour, life and force.

If my love were like a giant oak,
It would spread its branches wide,
To shelter you and to invoke
A safe haven in which to reside.

If my love were like a garden,
You’d know it’s where you belong,
It would be your own sweet Arden,
Filled with music, laughter, song.

If I’m a song, then you’re my score,

If I’m an apple, you’re my core,

If you’re a diamond, I’m your flaw.

If I’m a river, you’re my source,

If I’m a jockey, you’re my horse,

If you’re a meal, I’m your first course.

If I’m your bring, then you’re my buy,

If you’re a needle, I’m your eye.

If I’m a glass, then you’re my drink,

If I’m a fur, then you’re my mink,

If you’re a pen, then I’m your ink.

If I’m a boxer, you’re my clout,

If I’m a wager, you’re my tout,

If you’re a teapot, I’m your spout.

If I’m a dancer, you’re my barre,

If I’m a driver, you’re my car.

If you’re my jam, then I’m your jar.

If I’m a wallet, you’re my fiver,

If I’m a golf ball, you’re my driver,

If you’re my mouth, I’m your saliva.

If I’m a caber, you’re my toss,

If I’m an employee, you’re my boss,

If you’re a tooth, then I’m your floss.

If I’m a comedian, you’re my joke,

If you’re a pig, then I’m your poke.

If I’m a leaf, then you’re my clover,

If I’m a herd, then you’re my drover,

If you’re a white cliff, I’m your Dover.

If I’m the icing, you’re my bun,

If I’m a trigger, you’re my gun,

If you’re my day, then I am done.
