“Oh Lord, it’s late and we’re sitting around,
Just waiting for someone who’s homeward-bound…”
The life of an “‘ospital transporter” is varied but hard,
‘Cause they never know who they’ll have to pick up in their ‘car’….
And believe me, these amb’lances are not comfy or gentle,
They’re a white van stripped back to the bare essential.
The trolley’s so small, your feet hang off the end,
As you take every corner, your spirits descend,
‘Cause it’s simply not got any kind of suspension,
So each bump in the road’s felt in places I’d much rather not mention!
If you travel in one, pray you haven’t had a back op,
Or you’ll scream blue murder till the vehicle comes to a stop!
Travelling in these monstrosities really isn’t a joke,
The upside is the staff who drive them are wonderful folk!
Hospital Transport

Considering that most people are already in some sort of pain before they even are put in the ambulance it would be nice if a level of comfort could be built in somehow. Stretchers w/ shock absorbers? Maybe they have them? As a little side note the once small town of Naples, Florida where my ex is from did not have ambulances many, many years ago. If you needed transported to the hospital the funeral home would send out a hearst to help. Creepy.
Ooh, that is creepy! It’s an irony that these transport ambulances are so darned uncomfortable!
Perhaps that’s why after a car wreck two decades ago I was switched from the ambulance to a helicopter. Oh, wait, it probably had more to do with my blood pressure and internal bleeding…
It is ironic that there is no standard for the interiors of these ambulances…
Poetry in motion. Bumpy motion, but motion. I think they should be comfortable. I don’t know why they aren’t.
Nor do I Ann! It makes no sense at all!
Well, it looks like you had a bumpy ride. Why can’t they make it a bit more comfortable ?
Costs!
It always amazes me how we have to suffer so when we are ill, and not always from the illness itself, but from the transport, or the medication, or something else!
I know! It is crazy huh? But it’s always about money…
You always make medical emergencies seem like fun! Loved the poem!!
Not if you have to travel in one of them!
