This is simply the most wonderful piece of kit,
And I deplore the fact that it,
Worldwide is given such a terrible name,
A word that’s ugly, a word that’s lame.
This miraculously useful kitchen aide,
Is known everywhere as a “Sheila Maid”,
Except, that is, in our flat,
‘Cause we consider it an aristocrat,
And won’t use an expression that is frankly tat,
So instead we employ a marvellous moniker that,
Gives this item a competitive edge,
We call this ‘helper’ our winter hedge.

I call it a ‘hanging Annie’ fabulous piece of kit as you say!
I like your n ame too!
What a neat gizmo! I have just a rudimentary clothes line hung across the garage. It needs a name now 🙂
It is brilliant!
I think your poem failed,
Maybe the ship just sailed,
But from the photo,
I think it’s (voce) soto…
what the heck is all this?
for the culturally deprived among us?
It is a laundry airer!
They are brilliant. They are on a pulley so you can pull them up out the way.

wow! This is awesome. Write more about your new place, Caro, I know I’d love to see it!
Will do!
Would they have the aristocrat in U.S.
where some “delicates” await clean and fresh
the line is retractable
would help me be practical
thanks for poetry re: order for mess
Apparently not! You can buy them from Amazon, I guess you could see if they would send it to the US!
Ok Roy!
Sheila maid or hanging Annie
Both names give me a pain in the fanny
The thingy itself
Is Top Shelf.
…I’m glad you don’t seem to object to winter hedge!
I have never seen or heard of this before. I love the idea of it and glad you found a kinder name for it!
Thank you!
I could think of all kinds of other uses for this…. garden, organization in the garage, macrame…. Wonderful device – will have to keep my eyes open for one!
I want one! Never seen them like that before. Only ones I’ve ever seen are the wire ones and they don’t look anywhere near as pleasant to look at.
They are awesome!
I am not sure how your poem failed, The subject matter is wondrous and I can’t wait to go and pick ours up !
Nor I my darling
Is it a feature in your new house? I also have a clothes line in my vault and a tumble drier (which helps in London). Funny poem! (and I have to ask: is it a British thing? I have never seen a ‘Sheila maid’ in France?)
