Waiting For…

Here I am on tippy toes,

I’m excited and it shows,

Please do one of your very best throws,

I’m waiting for… my ball.
I can run from here to there,

As long as you’ll do so, I don’t care,

I just don’t terribly like to share,

When I’m in pursuit of my ball.
I’m a retrieving kind of hound,

I’ll catch my ball with just one bound,

I just love to chase it round and round,

I really love my ball.

Graduation

27 July, Isla’s graduation day,

When emotion and pride both held sway,

Pomp, ceremony, glamour, glitz,

And this student’s parents both in bits,

Elegant black gowns edged with green,

Not a dry eye to be seen,

To see her graduate at the end of 4 years,

Had us smiling to the tips of our ears!

Woodnotes

I woke up suddenly under a tree

To a strange and eerie cacophony,

That became a beautiful symphony.

Sonorous, staccato, soprano, bass,

Each separate woodnote had its place,

And each brought a satisfied smile to my face.

A dazzling dawn chorus at its very best,

Each note scintillated and caressed,

I lay back smiling; I felt blessed.

You

Scrimple

I heard a splendiferous word today,

As a cross between sidling and sashay!

But it mainly means “crimp”which also means curl,

It’s enough to make you want to whirl and twirl!

It also means to get a good deal or be really frugal,

Don’t believe me? Then check it out on Google! *

The World Beyond My Window

#poetsprompt Image used with permission, by +Laughing waters

The world beyond my window

Is unfussy,  laid-back, cool,

Palm trees blowing gently

Down by a small rock pool,

You see my home is coastal,

It is built upon the beach,

The breakers and white horses,

Are just beyond my reach.

A lounger sits there patiently,

Waiting for my  bod,

And I’ll lie there in the semi-shade,

And gently snooze or nod.

An empty bottle on the ledge,

Proves how hot it’s been,

I need a nice cold, ice cold Coke,

It’s part of my routine.

And when the shadows lengthen,

A storm lantern lights my way,

To bring me safely back inside,

At the dying of the day.

Wedding Cake

When it comes to wedding cake,
Traditional’s a big mistake!
Ours was made of different cheese,
And all our guests said, “Oh, yes please!”
Bleu D’Ambray and Westcombe Red,
Just 2 we chose for our wedding spread!
A cake with five stupendous tiers,
Brought my wife and I to tears,
What a way to end a feast,
Most guests attempted 3 at least!
