In 1953, James Watson and Francis Crick,
Came up with an image truly slick,
To represent a model of DNA,
That would truly blow the world away.
This was a beautiful double helix,
With small rungs that bound the two ribbons or ‘sticks’.
These rungs were the bases of a neucleotide,
But to pair these bases up seemed to be cockeyed,
Till they found that Thymine paired with Adonine,
Just as Guanine paired with Cytosine.
And if you set T opposite A, and G opposite C,
Each side was in exact complimentary symmetry.
Take a look, and judge these strands
This is the blueprint for your heart, your eyes, your hands.
Amazing how you can write on any subject. A great way to learn for the reader!
Thanks Alessa!
Science sounds so much better in poetry. Loved it!
Good! I’m glad!
Wow, we really are a work of art as well as the best built machine the world has ever known. I must believe I am a result of God’s handy work and not as Darwin would lead me to believe, a very large polliwog
You are certainly not a polliwog, William! Yes, we are the most astonishing, intricate, brilliant machines…
DNA is the poetry of life- and you put a poem to DNA…
Thanks Roy
You constantly amaze me. I am going to try to come up with a topic that is a challenge for you. I have already had some thoughts and blew them all off. I wonder if I can come up with one. Maybe Roy can. I love this poem as usual.
Please give me a challenge!
I think you might be the only person I know who can make science sound poetic!
Thanks Suerae!
That’s a great poem! very cleverly done!
Thank you, Muriel! Bring a baguette next time we see you!
