Let’s hear it for the wonderful Zaha Hadid,
Who by a clear mile, can make a bid,
For being the most successful female architect,
A designer with style and deep intellect.
Awarded a Dame Commander of the BE*
She has earned her place in history,
Working in London but born in Iraq,
This school was created for the charity ARK,
Which runs Brixton’s Evelyn Grace Academy,
With discipline and ardour – that’s a guarantee.
A beautiful, intelligent, use of space,
When confined to the smallest place.
Squeezed onto the tiniest of urban sites,
From every angle there’s a sight that delights.
In 2011 this won the Stirling Prize,
But then that really is no surprise.
She won the Pritzker Prize** in 2004,
Something a woman had not done before.
So now I ask at the tender age of 62,
Is there nothing this woman cannot do?
*British Empire.
**The most important architectural award.

Awesome. I saw models of her work at the Guggenheim in NY. Loved the poem!!
She is my favourite modern architect!
Very impressive. She certainly deserves her awards and your poem!
A fabulous architect!
The Pritzker is how I learned of this great designer. Thanks for the share.
She is wonderful!
Yet another amazing woman of inspiration. Wonderful work!
A brilliant designer
Fascinating!
Fabulous woman!
That is one strange shaped building, but it works. I think Zaha Hadid is remarkable. And she is just my age. I loved being introduced to her, Thanks, Caro.
She is the most talented architect currently working, I think.
She really is amazing. I admire women who can excell in male-dominent careers such as architecture. What an accomplished woman!
I absolutely love her work! She rocks..
We keep hearing about male architects. It is so nice, for once, to have such a talented female architect!
I agree! But in my opinion, she is better than all the male architects put together!
