The date is December 1983,
An ad is about to make history,
The advert is known as “1984”,
A computer is what this ad is for,
Directed by one Mr Ridley Scott,
The ad portrayed a wee snapshot,
Of the future of IBM as per Orwell’s book,
Total destruction was the advert’s hook,
A new computer would trample and squash
IBM into the ground. Who? Apple Macintosh.
Costing $1.5 million, and shown again in January ’84,
During Super Bowl when it was seen by millions more,
The ad had people wanting to get it somehow,
This brilliant, beautiful piece of computer knowhow!

Now you have me wanting to see the ad(vert) π Must google…
It’s cool
Incredible! I love your choice of topics for your poems as well as your choice of words!!
Thank you Carol!
It was a concept-breaking ad!
It certainly was!
I am going to have to check out this ad – sounds pretty cool!
It was ground breaking at the time…
Great how sometimes the past can tell us the future. Now I need to look for the add…………..
It is groundbreaking in all kinds of ways!
Cool! I didn’t realize the bite out of the apple represented a byte til just recently.
I know Marie, it’s just a cool, cool product!
The classic Apple Ad in rhyme. Can you say viral? Ground breaking (and no I didn’t know about the bite out of the Apple representing a byte. Thanks Marie). I love your poetry. You can make a rhyme out of anything.
Thanks for the complement Anne, I am having fun finding random bits of history I want to write about!
I remember seeing the commercial for the first time. Watching the girl run run run. Where is she going? What is she doing with that hammer?!!?!? Oh my stars. It was a great moment and made me want to be a copywriter. Of course, then I became a copywriter and the stress made me quit. Now I’m an artist in Paris. But I’m still in love with that Apple ad… she says as she writes this comment on her MacBook Pro.
It is just the most brilliant ad, isn’t it? And how great that it made you want to copywriter yourself. Greater by far that you are now an artist in Paris using an Apple though! We are exclusively an Apple family…always have been!
I love how you can write a poem about this. And yes, it is an amazing ad!
Great ad!
Great product!
