I walked down to the beach today,
To smell it, to see it, to feel its spray.
I don’t like long vistas of nothing but sea,
I like a headland, tumbling scenery.
I like a shoreline that wraps around the coast,
With crags and rockpools, the things I like most.
Places where wild waves can crash to the shore,
And I can relish how my spirits just leap and soar.
Love it. I like the sea on early mornings as the mist is hovering and the sun is waiting to rise, to feel emptiness and peace, to be alone yet surrounded by beauty, to just walk and be.
So then, no lying on the beach in benidorm for two weeks this year? π I love this poem it’s sheer brilliance π
Thanks my darling. And no, no trips to Benidorm, PLEASE I BEG YOU!! Xx
It is a wonderful feeling, huh?
Beautiful, Caro. I live near on an estuary and we have miles and miles of twisting ‘sea wall’ with lots of mud, sometimes water, sometimes none, depending on the state of the tide, always changing. The energy is amazing.
Thank you! I am glad it spoke to you.
The picture and your words pair perfectly! Hope you got to be there in person π
Thank you
Ah, the two choices. If I am looking to walk- then cliffs and sea- but my favorite is the waves upon the beach- so i can jump in and return via the waves directly!
I love the sea. Thank you for the wonderful reminder. I think I like walking the headland best π
Me too!
Beautifully, put, Caro, and I agree with you. The interesting shoreline is so alluring.
We are of a mind
This poem reminds me of th eSE coast of Oahu. It’s all volcanic rock cliffs facing th eopen sea. Waves crash into th erock and spray 20-20 feet int eh air. It’s quite a site.
How wonderful!
The love the ocean, when its calm and when it is angry. I love walking in a foggy mist alone with my thoughts. It is the place I visit to calm my mind.
I don’t think you’re alone William!
I feel like I am there now! What a lovely poem.. and yes, I love the sea. I try to get to an ocean at least once a year.
Thanks Suerae
I haven’t been close to the ocean for many years. You brought up a wonderful memory for me. Thank you, Caro.
You are welcome Ann!
I grew up next to the sea…I sometimes miss it!
Not surprised!
