Until quite recently rarely seen,
They are now quite common in the Forest of Dean,
Striped like tigers, in brown and cream,
The piglets are truly a visual dream.
They are fearsome and brave in defence of their kin,
With curving tusks and bristly skin,
They have large heads and very short legs,
Are they Italian? It’s a question one begs,
They forage for grass and berries and roots,
But if meat’s about they fill their boots,
They’re delicious to look at, delicious to eat,
One tiny taste and your life is complete,
So load up my plate, I’m in search for more,
Of that glorious dish that is known as wild boar!
I enjoyed wild boar Kielbasa on a picnic in a forest where Poland meets Russia, I believe it is named the White Forest. I was considered somewhat of a celebrity, mostly because of the celebrity of whom I was traveling. I remember the wild boar Kielbasa and the shots of Vodka as both being outstanding. That was about 35 years ago, and today, I returned for a brief moment. Thank you for tickling my memory.
I’m glad I could William!
I had wild for once – it was very rich & lovely. Wonderful poem!!
It is delicious!
I’ve never had wild boar, but I really want one of those striped piggies! So cute 🙂
Aren’t they!?
I love wild boar and I love the look of the piglets. But having kept pigs myself I have no desire ever to do so again – they are too darn clever for their own good!
I agree Gillian! They are too darned clever for their own good!
I’ve never seen a picture of wild piglets with stripes. And I’ve never tried wild boar and I’ve never been to the White Forest, either. I’m feeling a tad out of it . . . but Caro, I love your poem and now I have something new to hope for–a taste of wild boar!
Well enjoy! It is truly scrumptious!
I don’t think I could eat one of those cuties. I can’t eat cows or pigs for the same reason. But, my main problem with eating farm animals is the way they are treated. I don’t have as much of a problem if the animal is wild raised and caught. I’ve never tried wild boar, but I am guessing it would be delicious. Love the poem!
They are! And they don’t look so cute when they are adult!
One of our local supermarkets here in upstate NY sells “Artisan Wild Boar” sausages made in San Francisco. They are $30 a lb. Way beyond my budget! I’ve never eaten wild boar and they are considered a problem in parts of our country, such as areas of Texas.
It’s a shame it is so expensive – it is delicious! X
Can we have some of these to go with the goats? xxx
Oh lord, we will have our own zoo…xxx
