Passion Recalled

We met at a party,

Our eyes locked,

And the room disappeared.

We both said later,

It was as if we felt

A shiver of recognition,

A punch to the solar plexus.

And now,

If I smell the scent

Of one red rose,

The first gift I received,

It all floods back,

My stomach lurches,

As I recall our first kiss.

The Break

I live with my mother,

But today I am visiting my father.

I came on the train

From Nice

To this suburb

Of Marseille

I packed only the essentials

Enough clothes

For a long weekend

I brought my teddy bear

And I dressed in

My Sunday best

For travelling

I want to look my best
