Squirrel Watch

We like to plant here, looking out,To see just who is round about:

Mums in cars all off for shopping,

UPS, and they’re not stopping,

Dads in suits, all looking tense,

A man who’s come to mend the fence,

Kids, all ages, out to play,

There are 8 of them today.

And then the squirrels, which we hate,

Because they over-populate,

And when cooped up, like G & me,

Its pants to see them running free,

And scrambling up and down each tree!

Cobwebs Over The River

We were boating

Slowly,

Up the river,

And were passing

The Ali Centre,

In Louisville, Kentucky,

When we disembarked,

And I took a snap

Of the bridge

Across the river,

Which resembled

Steely cobwebs unfurling,

Against a backdrop

Of the setting sun.

The Cruise

The Cruise
It was early in the morning

The sun was already high

Giving a high gloss

To everything

We went down to the dock

And there she was

Our cruise boat

Painted a dazzling yellow

Which somehow lifted our spirits

A metaphor for

Our sense of anticipation

And of adventure

For the journey ahead

And our sight and swim

With the dolphins

When Nature’s bounty overflows,

The world is filled with shards of gold,

A precious fortune underfoot,

And hanging from each branch to boot.

I have 2 hats: poet/writer and restaurant owner. Today’s post is about La Petite Bouchee.
Anita-Clare Field cooks the most glorious food on a gas stove outdoors in all weathers. Neil Hudson-Basing provides the most astonishing front of house service with the most incredible attention to detail. Our beautiful Citroen HY van is the most unique and Aiwonderful bistro. And Loz Rex has helped us make her look even more beautiful than she already is on so many occasions. We are so proud to win this fantastic Time Out Love London Award, so thank you from a joint owner of this amazing little restaurant for a team to die for. ❤️❤️ #timeout #timeoutlondon #timeoutlovelondonawards #sydenham

A Warm Day #poetsprompt

It was a warm day

After a stormy night

The fountain splashed softly,

In a gentle icicle arc,

And with the sun barmy

On the back of my neck,

I stepped free of the veranda

And into the garden

The grass damp fat and soft

Beneath my feet

And set my chair

Beside a large clutch of ferns

So I could breathe in

The heavy rich

Smell of the earth

Sharp in my nostrils

After the rain

Last time you voted for us to be shortlisted, now you are voting for us to actually win!!

I stepped onto the boardwalk.

It stretched out before me,

Almost straight as a die…

And disappeared out of view.

It seemed confined and limitèd,

In such a huge, impersonal,

Yet beautiful landscape ,

It crossed my mind,

That it resembled

A metaphor of my life,

Without the twists and turns,

That characterise my soul’s journey,

To date,

I set out, undaunted,

To discover

Where it would lead me.

Woodnotes

I woke up suddenly under a tree

To a strange and eerie cacophony,

That became a beautiful symphony.

Sonorous, staccato, soprano, bass,

Each separate woodnote had its place,

And each brought a satisfied smile to my face.

A dazzling dawn chorus at its very best,

Each note scintillated and caressed,

I lay back smiling; I felt blessed.
