A young girl from Kalamazoo,
Liked to munch on a satsuma or two,
She bought a bumper crop,
From her local shop,
‘Twas a habit she just had to pursue!

To See A World

From way up here, the world looks small,
I cling on tight incase I fall,
I only feel a few inches tall,
Oh, it’s great to see a world!

There are pockets of dense population,
Oases of vibrant vegetation,
Amidst the drought and devestation,
Oh, it’s great to see a world!

The houses look like tiny bricks,
On watered plots, out in the sticks,*
Indidividual vs. Urban politics,
Oh, it’s great to see a world!

* an English expression, meaning in the middle of nowhere

My Dog, Macgregor, Speaks…

This is my favourite place to be,
I’m full of fun and wizardry,
I bounce around like Zebedee*,
When I’m by the sea!

I love exploring seashore caves,
I love jumping through the waves,
Kick a football, I’ll make saves,
Oh, I just love the sea!

I love this stretch of pristine beach,
The foam-tipped rollers just out of reach,
Swimming’s something I could teach!
Oh yes, I love the sea!

I love rolling in the sand,
The instant back scrub feels quite grand,
I love strolling down the strand,
Oh yes, I love the sea!

I love to wakeboard, love to surf,
This beach is my little bit of ‘turf’,
To me it’s simply my heaven on earth!
Bless that stretch of sea!

* a character in a children’s TV programme, The Magic Roundabout, that bounced from place to place

All The Fun Of The Fair!

Things that twirl,
And things that swirl,
And things that make your toe-nails curl,
It’s all the fun of the fair!

Flashing multi-coloured lights,
That are super-duper bright,
That would illuminate the darkest night,
It’s all the fun of the fair!

Machines that hurl you up and swing you down,
That make your stomach swirl around,
This is neon-coated Tinseltown,
It’s all the fun of the fair!

Give me an old-fashioned carousel,
That has prancing horses, and birds as well,
That doesn’t hurl me round left and right, pell-mell,
That’s the only ride I take at the fair!

I Wrote A Message In The Sand

28 Saturday Jun 2014

I wrote a message in the sand,

I used sticks and shells,

To decorate,

Illuminate,

To make 3D.

L – O – V – E

And although we both know…

That the tide will come in,

And the waves will wash away

This gentle, personal communique,

We also know this,

Its sentiment will remain,

Impressed into the sand…

Seascape In Waiting

The water’s flat,

The bay is calm,

The boats are still.

It is early morning,

The world is asleep,

And yet it is mirrored in the water.

This is a seascape in waiting,

Just itching to burst into frenetic life,

The hustle and bustle of a busy estuary,

Ready to welcome a day of industry and leisure…

Oh for an ice cream cone!

Ugh, it’s really hot today!,
Blue, blue skies, no welcoming grey!l
Humidity’s up, and it’s here to stay,
Oh for an ice cream cone!

My clothes are simply drenched in sweat,
Oh, what I’d give for a nice cornet,
Or better still, a midday sunset,
Or for an ice cream cone!

So bring me something white or pink,
Something to slurp, something to drink,
Something cold into which I can cheerfully sink,
Oh bring me an ice cream cone!

The Great Escape

They just happened to look the other way,
And so I made my great escape,
I can pick flowers for a grand bouquet,
Chase leaves or get into a splendid scrape!
I’ve a hat on my head to keep me warm,
Though I’m wearing a dress I don’t feel the need to conform,
I just want to skip and jump and run,
To graze my knees, to have some fun,
The world’s my oyster, it’s fresh and new,
With myriad wonderful things to do!
So please don’t stop me, I’m on a roll,
Don’t want to go for a peaceful stroll!
I want to race, I want to fly,
Only speed will gratify!
So let me have a jolly jape
And indulge my great escape!

Chillax – It’s Sunday!

I’m dreaming of a ginger cat,
Wearing a towel as a turban!
He’ll be lying on a plush bed, supine, not flat,
And looking Hollywood, not suburban.
With two pieces of cucumber over his eyes,
He’ll be luxuriating, no surprise,
Just chillaxing, because it’s Sunday!!

The Diver

Wraith-like, I slip through the waters,
Azure blue, gentle green.
An explosion of light and colour,
Where the sun hits the waves.
A silent, spectral sentinel,
I observe the majesty of this earth.
