The last leaves
Cling tenaciously
To their tree
And if I tilt my head back
And look up to
A dense, foggy sky
I see a few random branches
Where the leaves
Cling for dear life too

Synonymous with Christmas,
A big hug of a greeting
From the Aztecs and Mexico,
In the colours of the season,
Red and green,
A poinsettia,
Or Christmas Eve Star.

Sunrise
The leaves are almost
Translucent
With the sun burning
Bursting, through them
The air is full of promise
For a brand new
New Hampshire day

I can’t help it
I just jump for joy
I am Nature’s answer
To camouflage
(Or lack of it)
Fluorescent green
Red eyes
Orange feet
You won’t miss me
But you won’t
Eat me either

The curl
As if of a rib cage
And a herd of deer

Through the eddies and currents
And I will use
All my skill and strength
To toss our nets
Into the waters
To catch fish for our families

Autumn leaves on forest floor
Vibrant green
Over chestnut brown
I can almost hear
The crunch
And crackle
Of dead leaves
Underfoot

We were astonished
The crackle
The hiss
The colour
The strangeness of it
…But then we discovered
HEAT!

All about me
Is black and white
An exercise
In monochrome
Except for
This fragile purple leaf
