A Bend in The Road

bend, rosd

It’s not the end of the road,
It’s just a bend in the road,
And, although I can’t see around the corner,
And do not know what’s coming,
If I have the courage
To round that curve
It may lead somewhere unexpected,
To an exciting future
Unless I fail to make the turn.

sleigh, snow

The sight of a horse and sleigh
Is a joyful thing
Yet it brings me heartache
For out here
In this winter wonderland,
It is the means by which
All those I love
Come and
Go…..

Raining: Barcelona

rain, walking, weather

It’s raining
In Barcelona
And the camera is
On time lapse
So the passers-by
Seem to be leeching
Off the street
Like watercolour
Off the page…

Give me
An armful of buckets
And a spade
Lead me to a sandpit
And I’m as happy
As it is possible to be

If My Love…

love

This poem is for my beautiful wife, Anita-Clare, the love of my life. How fortunate we were to find each other.

If my love were like an ocean,
It would come in but never retreat.
I would show you my constant devotion,
By laying it here, at your feet.

If my love were like a mountain,
It would be a peak I longed to climb,
It would bathe you like a fountain,
And stand the test of time.

If my love were like a river, long,
It would flow joyfully from its source,
It would be, like a melody or song,
Full of vigour, life and force.

If my love were like a giant oak,
It would spread its branches wide,
To shelter you and to invoke
A safe haven in which to reside.

If my love were like a garden,
You’d know it’s where you belong,
It would be your own sweet Arden,
Filled with music, laughter, song.

winter

We are battened down against the snow,
But we keep our lights burning,
Against the glare,
To welcome all those who come to our door.

A flower
And a butterfly
Startling colour
Still life
Yet poetry in motion
Nature
In perfect counterbalance

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 14,000 times in 2014. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 5 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

winter

It has snowed overnight
All through the night
The world this morning
Is white
With a touch of colour
And the trees
The branches
Are heavy with the weight of it
Fat with its depth

An Eye

It is just an eye
But it fascinates me
How the gentle mushroom
Is striated with gold
And how so much
Emotion
Can be conveyed
In just one look
But what enthrals me
Even more
Is that this eye
Was drawn with crayon
By one skilful hand

Crayon drawing by Jose Vergara, aged 19
