True Love

I fell in love with you
At the very first glimpse
You were quicksilver
Poetry in motion
A Jack in the box
My exact, male counterpart
I remember you saying
You wanted to still
Be holding my hand at 90
And here we are
60 years married
And still walking like a couple
Newly in love

OK!
So I look like
Garfield!
And I have
About as much energy…
So, once I’ve had my nap,
You’d better look ship-shape,
And give me some grub*.

celebrity, stardom

Let’s here it for so-called celebrity
“Stars” ripped from obscurity,
Impostors Desperate to get back on TV
So I ask, who the hell are you?

How about Celeb Big Brother
Or, more accurately, it’s A.N Other
A scatotering whose fame is really killer
Then loads you would just call dubious filler’,
So I ask, who the hell are you?

So what does it take to have some fame?
It’s not in your character, look or name,
You don’t even need a particular skill
Just be on TV to get on the bill
So I ask, who the hell are you?

First Frost

The first frost
Crept across the lantern
Like a frozen wave of cold
Jagged shards of ice
Forming round each
Lump and bump
And an elegant whole
Captured
As if by freeze frame photography
Frozen in space and time

chimes, music

A wind chime,
That plays a Gregorian scale,
With deep bass notes,
Rich, round baritone,
Alto for balance,
And sparkling soprano notes,
To hang outside my front door,
Crucial to Feng Shui chi,
Health and happiness,
Entering my home
For this New Year.

A Slip of the Tongue

He wanted to ask her out on a date…
So his head was full of ideas.
Outside, under that neon sign
To the Blackly Hotel?
Or around the corner
Over on Broadway
At that little cafe?
What he actually said
Came out as gobbledegook
So she asked him,
“Are you trying to preposition me?”

There is a statue
Of Peter the Great
In St. Petersburg
That Pushkin
Revered in a famous poem
Медный всадник (Bronze Horseman)
And this image revives its memory
Its living, breathing
Counterpart,
A man
On horseback
Silhouetted
Against a copper
Backdrop

love

I’m all in.
Not defeated, exhausted,
Flat on the floor,
But
Totally devoted to you.

I’m all in.
Not desperately or hopefully
Gambling my chips on one hand,
But
Joyfully investing in you.

I’m all in.
Not inside you,
To the exclusion of all else,
But
Completely supportive of you.

I’m all in,
Not over-confident,
Or bluffing,
But
Openly opening my heart.

I’m all in,
Not sure I deserve it,
Or am half the person you are,
But
I am fully committed to you.

A golden landscape
Of peaks and troughs
One man walking
Along a shifting spine
A sandy backbone
His footsteps leaving
Ghostly traces
Of his passage
Along the dune

And you,
Silhouetted,

Holding something tangerine.
