#remembrance day

They say poppies

Are  for remembrance,

And this one,

So thin,

Translucent

Fragile,

Will be worn in my lapel,

Epilogue

To the thousands of lives

Taken, in the Great Wars.

Autumn Ethereal

Bejewelled dew

On an Autumn leaf.

Where the dewdrops form

The colour changes,

Bronze, gold,

The drop is magnified

And the leaf appears to be

Perspiring.

Delicate

Autumn ethereal.

Blood Moon

The supermoon is full in its perigee.

Seeming huge in the sky,

Its close orbit to Earth, at 226,000 miles,

Means it becomes a spectacular colour

As earth’s shadow passes over it.

Full moon,

Red moon,

Supermoon,

Blood moon.

The world was peaceful,

The water smooth,

As the sun set in the bay.

Not a breath of wind,

Not a leaf rustling,

As the sun set in the bay.

Birds had flown home to roost,

And silence prevailed,

As the sun set in the bay.

A feeling of peace descended,

All was calm, still,

As the sun set in the bay.

Step into the labyrinth

And each tree is identical

No identifying features

Just a uniform path

Stretching out of sight

Sailing Home

My journey has been arduous

But I’m sailing home to you

The seas have been rough

Even now they are calm

But I’m sailing home to you

The sun sets slowly

Projecting its light across the water

As I’m sailing home to you

Birds have been my only companions

Journeying home or to pastures new

Their presence gives me succour

As I’m sailing home to you

Morning Mist

The morning mist

Clings to the ground

And stretches out

It’s chill fingertips

Across the fields

The fenceposts

Standing like silent sentinels

Prevail against its icy grip

Autumn on a branch

Dripping gold leaf

Into my lap

And on the ground beneath my feet

Fright

I thought I saw something really scary,

It was kind of small  and kind of hairy!

With a pointy nose and big front teeth,

Lord knows what perils lie beneath!

I’m a natural when I’m herding sheep,

I control their movements in my sleep,

Anything murine* fills me with feat,

I’m mouse-allergic, that much is clear.

Walking in the rain,

With the world washed anew

And the trams skimming along

Throwing up vapour trails.

The city seems brighter,

Lighter,

Even with the lowering skies.
