American in Spain

Lavapies

I find myself returning again and again,

To an American’s views of living in Spain.

Take a picnic, enjoy Spring in the park,

Experience Madrid nightlife after dark.

Bald as a coot but with three months of beard,

For this American is that spartan or weird?

Life in Spain isn’t all spent on the beach,

I’m guessing this Yankee sure knows how to teach.

He nominated me for the Lieber Award,

So this PR piece is his well-earned reward!

The Tanty Files

Let’s hear it for the tanty files,

A blog that seduces and beguiles,

And fills you full of mirth and smiles,

When you recognise the symptoms in your own child!

A tanty’s a tantrum of gigantic size,

That makes you gasp and stretch your eyes,

It may even take you by surprise,

And you’ll often stop to wonder why?!

( I particularly recommend tanty part three and the radio flyer! )

Life On The Lighter Side

photo-1201Bonnie writes a blog that’s darned good fun,
Each post gives you pause for thought,
She’s an Oriole fan and a home-schooling mum,
And her comedy brings you up short.
She blogs about life and the perfect couch,
She collects a wide load of stuff,
She considers math a bit of an ‘ouch’,
Makes Easter eggs off the cuff,
So if you want a jolly good laugh,
I suggest you go take a look,
Her blog is a giggle and a half,
At least it is in MY book!

img_4634Get inside Alexei’s glitching mind,
And there are many treasures you might find,
Odd photos of a classic dial-up phone,
Fences to frighten if walking alone,
A picture of a funny clock,
Photos of cars to delight or shock!
Pictures of scales that have no face,
His blog has a sense of purpose and place,
Send him your pics of a fence or two,
And you might find you’re following his blog too!

Helen’s a poet of wit and style,

So I’ve found myself reading her blog for some while,

Elemental it is, earth, air, water and fire,

It has a consciousness of which I never tire,

She writes about memory, writes about ink,

Her subjects will all make you ponder and think,

She’s a poet that I find hard to resist,

So if I want to read any, she’s first on my list.

If you love a good poem and are in search of some more,

I urge you to beat a swift path to her door.

A Rose By Any Other Name…

images-1This is simply the most wonderful piece of kit,
And I deplore the fact that it,
Worldwide is given such a terrible name,
A word that’s ugly, a word that’s lame.
This miraculously useful kitchen aide,
Is known everywhere as a “Sheila Maid”,
Except, that is, in our flat,
‘Cause we consider it an aristocrat,
And won’t use an expression that is frankly tat,
So instead we employ a marvellous moniker that,
Gives this item a competitive edge,
We call this ‘helper’ our winter hedge.

Nickers and Ink

I am a fan of Good Poetry Inc.,

And Linda Ann Nickerson’s a great poet, I think,

She’s currently writing acrostics A-Z,

And her poems are truly a delight to see,

A was for Absent, which some may be,

B’s for old-fashioned bakery,

C for careers, and we all would like one,

D was for Daffodil, a small ray of sun.

E was for eavesdrop, which is how gossip may flow,

F was for Flannels, didn’t you know?

G was for gumption – we’d all like to gain

H is for hurricane, gusts of strong rain,,

It’ll be interesting to see where she goes next,

And what she does with the letter ‘X’!

For those of you who don’t know, an acrostic is a verse in which the first or last letters of each line spell out a word/phrase etc.

Steinway

sapphire-framedThis item represents another great love,
With a rich tone that’s as if it’s from heaven above.
This brand of piano is loved by them all,
From Michel Legrand to Diana Krall,
Cole Porter, John Lennon, the list is so long,
Of artists who used it to pen a new song,
Harry Connick Jr says it makes him unafraid of the dark,
If your’re choosing a piano the choice is quite stark,
If you’ve got the dosh there’s but one thing to do,
Commission a piano that’s an expression of you,
There’s only one piano that makes me go weak,
It’s truly magnificent, handmade and unique,
I pay Steinway a visit when I get the urge,
And dream of the piano on which I want to splurge!

green_girl_gratitude

Her name’s Wendy Simard, she loves all things green,

Her health-focused blog is a joy to be seen!

Out in the garden, she sheds all of her stress,

And shows all her readers how to repeat the process.

From nutty quinoa, to kids who grow kale,

To community gardening, she spins a good tale,

Vitamix makes life energetic and sweet,

She cleanses with apples, gets grounded with beets.

If you love a good health or a gardening post,

Go and discover her, she’s a really good host!

Silvana de Soisson

Silvana de Soisson will serve you a corporate lunch,

An opera soirée, a Celebratory brunch,

With veg from her garden, well at leas that’s my hunch.

As well as the veg, she grows flowers, herbs and fruit,

She does her own styling, her own photo shoot,

And uses local suppliers, because that is what suits.

She writes about restaurants and gourmet travel,

That unless you eat local, your food tastes like gravel,

Check her favourite things and her world will unravel.

She’s a Lombard Italian, who loves good food,

A fine arancini, a cocktail she’s brewed,

Her tips to detox, what’s bad and what’s good.

She tells you how to persuade your children to cook,

That the Villa Farnese’s in her favourite book,

Don’t take my word for it, go take a look.
