Waiting

We’re waiting for our Dad here,
He’s coming home from work.
There’s me, in blue, I’m Robbie Fear,
Sam, Dougray, Belle and Turk.
It is our favourite time of day,
It’s great anticipation,
It’s 50 shades of gold not grey,
He’s the best Pa in the nation.

Barry told me
To look for Lola
On Copacobana Beach
But I couldn’t find
The showgirl
…. Or the sand
Till close to the shore!

Blurring my vision
Obscuring my view
But not of the traffic jam

Happy!

Busking makes us happy!
Music brings us joy!
So you and I just make our own,
A small girl and her canine boy…
Yes, we’re busking for a slice of bread,
There’s nothing we’d rather do instead!

caravan

My wife announced she’d bought me a caravan
Not something that was in my 5 year plan
It’s not a vehicle I’ve ever wanted to own
Either pre-fab panels or shining chrome
And so it was with doom and gloom
That I dragged my feet from room to room
Dreading what I’d see out back
Destined to give me a heart attack
And so what joy I then espied
When I set a toe outside
For down the drive and out of sight
We’re a string of camels on which to alight
Yes, a mobile caravan
But this would cross the Gobi or Sudan

Saying Farewell To My Child

02 Monday Feb 2015

If conversation starts to pall
And I have no words at all
Don’t criticise for hating sad goodbyes,
I’m saying farewell to my child

I’ve always encouraged independence of thought
That luxury is so dearly sought
I need to know you have space to grow
But I’m saying farewell to my child

I want you to flourish, I want you to fly,
Don’t want you to see heartache, to see me cry
Don’t want to hold you back, but it’s courage I lack
When I’m saying farewell to my child

I love that you engage with young and old
That your social ease makes you seem quite bold
But I sometimes love to be the hand to your glove
I don’t want to say farewell to my child

You’re making all kinds of exciting plans
Travelling to far-off distant lands
Though I wish you well, I think you can tell
I hate saying farewell to my child
