A study in indigo

An illuminated church

And bare branches

Adorned with fairy lights

An empty bench

Waiting for a passer-by

To sit and admire the view

Hellway

A corridor in a cinema,

All orange and red

Like the inferno

Not a hallway

But a hellway.

Seek

Seeking for gold

In a limpid pool
Sifting out

The unwanted detritus

To find nuggets that will

Scry for my future

Got You!

I know you’re in there somewhere,

And now I’ve got you trapped,

You can’t escape the hooded claw,

You’re my bird food now, for sure,

My culinary future’s mapped!

A long acquaintance,

My wife and I,

We are always deep in conversation,

Even when we take

Our favourite stroll

Along the fast-growing

Beautiful

Bamboo Walk

Lines of traffic,

Lines of lights,

Slipstream,

Fast-frame,

Lines,

Lines,

Lines.

We are in search of nectar,

But today,

Like magnets

We cling to a dripping tap

In search of water

On a hot, hot day.

Butterfly Bush

We crowd together on this plant

Like a monstrous, over-sized flower,

Only when we spread our wings

Is it truly clear what we are

Slender,

Tall,

Hollow,

Green,

One of many,

I crowd the air itself,

In my effort to reach the sky.

The sky,

As the sun sinks

At the end of the day,

The horizon appears

As if on fire

And the sky is full

Of crushed raspberry

Blackberry

And blueberry

And the trees black

Like silhouettes.
