The Sandcastle

I built a very splendid

Sandcastle

With an onion dome.

I took coloured sand with me,

So the steps I fashioned,

Up to its gate,

Could be covered with red (pink) carpet.

I took green sand for the patches of grass on its ramparts,

And blue for the water that gushed

From an underground cavern

Into a rock pool.

An architectural extravaganza.

Joy

On days like this, I jump for joy,

Like a springy, wind-up toy,

I may just be a little lamb,

But one day soon, I’ll be a ram!

Colours

A tree in Autumn or Fall

Is like Joseph’s

Coat of many colours,

A symphony of

Green,

Yellow,

Brown,

Black,

Orange,

Red,

And, strangely,

Blue.

Silence Under Snow

03 Thursday Dec 2015

The snow had fallen in a thick blanket,

And the world was muffled into a silence

That was almost deafening.

The icy grip of winter

Clung to the willow tree,

Which wept frozen crystals,

The peace, the silence,

Was shattering.

The Picnic

We wanted to go on a picnic,

Out in the great outdoors,

We knew which chairs we wanted to pick,

And scatter cushions, scores.

We chose bright orange, green and sky blue,

As our colours of choice,

To kind of ‘decorate’ the view,

And make our hearts rejoice!

The Hand In Hand

 The Hand In Hand
A beautiful old pub in Brighton,
Kemptown, to be precise,
On Upper St James Street,
The Hand In Hand
Couldn’t be smaller
Or quirkier if it tried!
No sports on TV here,
Unless Wales are playing rugby,
In which case the publican,
A Welshman,
Is the staunchest supporter!
An old school one arm bandit
Fruit machine
And a vintage table-top
Arcade 2 man Space Invaders game
Is your entertainment of choice,
And it’s nostalgic fun!
But most of all,
The pub boasts its own
Kemptown microbrewery,
Making craft beers,
And guest ales and lagers
Are featured from near and far.
So breathe yourself into this tiny pub,
Step back in time
And enjoy the Hand In Hand.

The Long Walk Home

30 Monday Nov 2015

We walked to the top of the valley,

And turned for home.

The old farm road,

A track with grass growing down the midpoint,

Bordered by two ancient hand-built stone walls,

Stretched away from us

Like a ribbon of faith,

A promise that

It would guide us on our journey.

Looking down its length,

It appeared to be the string

That held each building block,

Each field, together.

We realised just how deep

In conversation we had been,

To have come this far,

Without noticing, that

It was a long walk home.

Candy Floss World

An extraordinary feeling…

To be placed

In an environment

Where every tree

And bush

Seems to have been

Thrown into a candy floss machine

At the funfair.

The sweetest of pink

Against two shades of blue,

The sky and a lake.

Strangely artificial,

Yet nature at its best.

Colour The World

A scrap of red

Brightening

An otherwise drab world.

A ladybird

On a leaf that’s turned.

Colour,

Life,

In unlikely places.

Unconditional Love

We share our day,

You and I,

We do most things together,

You and I,

But there are times when we can’t,

And you leave me behind,

And I wait for you.

No matter how long,

No matter when,

You give me love

And I return it to you,

Fully,

No questions asked,

Unconditional love.
