To ensure that good people go to and fro,

If it’s someone we hate, we will bark and hiss,

We’re not always peaceful and calm like this.

To welcome guests, to welcome you.

A simple gesture that makes you smile,

As you step into my house for a little while.

Not a jack-in-the-box but a cat-in-the-box,

And when I am then my life is so rosy,

It may look quite frot, but believe me it’s not, 

It makes me feel safe and, yes, cosy.

So leave me to sit and fossick a bit,

This box is all that I might need,

I’ll get out for the loo, or something feline to do,

Or if I’ve a desperate desire to feed.

So open your throat, let the rafters ring,

And sing us a snatch of your favourite song,

To make the day merrily roll along!

This is how I feel when relaxed and fluffy,Not timid, or shy, what you might call stuffy,

Just lying here letting it all hang loose,

So put your nimble fingers to very good use,

And give my tummy a jolly good rub,

It’s almost better than a plateful of grub,

I don’t give a dime, or even a nickel,

For anything finer than a good tummy tickle!

I was formerly scruffy and dreadfully hirsute,

Now I think you’ll agree that I’m terminally cute!

And it has a beautiful tone, by heck. 

It’s the most therapeutic thing to sit and play,

And while an hour or two away.

I love to walk in nature,

To feel the breeze on my skin,

The ground beneath my feet,

To smell the earth and trees on the air.

And yet this morning,

In a stretch of wood

That I know so well,

Where ancient trees climb with me

Up the slope,

To a path along the ridge,

The mist had rolled in,

And the familiar seemed strange,

And fearful,

Each step, 

A pace into the unknown.

I’ve always been a sucker for a good balloon,

In them you feel you can fly to the sun or moon! 

And from their baskets you’ll see some sights (sites),

The trouble is, I’ve no head for heights!
