You’ll love Hilda Matheson if you love Radio 4,
She is the arbiter of what the station stands for.
As the first director of talks, she had her say,
And shaped the programmes we love today,
She founded quality journalism and radio,
So in my book deserves a really stupendous halo.
Lord Hailey took credit and rolled in the hay,
But SHE was responsible for the African Survey…

Thank you. I had never heard of her. She lives now in your poem.
Thanks Carol! There are quite a few of these unsung female heroes…I am attempting to honour them! Xx
Thanks Carol!

Thanks for stopping by!
Oh, yes – we who know fantastic, unknown-to-most glorious women are privileged so share their lives a bit, yes?
So glad to pop by today from UBC. This has been a speeding train (and a productive train!) of a month. :~)
I couldn’t agree with you more!
Glad to meet you!
Ah Radio 4! Reminds me of summers at my Gran’s and her radio on. Now what station was the Archers on? (If I have that name right!)
The Archers is also on Radio 4!
