It makes me slightly mad,
That they are used at funerals,
At moments that are sad.
Particularly, my favourite one,
Pure and just off white,
Its fragrance fills the room it’s in,
A source of great delight.
I’ve made a promise to my darling,
That when I have moved in,
I’ll buy a bouquet every week,
So let the fun begin!

I love lilies as much as you. Great pic btw 😉 xx
I knows it! A great photographer took the picture. Do you know her?! xx
I like lilies, but I sure don’t want a lot of them at my funeral. I’ll keep the lilies for Easter. For my funeral a keg of Guinness, a bottle each of Tullamore Dew, Bushmills and Jameson Irish Whiskey and some rocking good Irish pub music. I need to get the devil drunk if there is going to be any chance of me getting to Heaven a half hour before he realizes he missed his chance.
Your funeral sounds perfect William!
How sweet. I love fresh flowers that is a lovely gesture. I didn’t realize they were associated with funerals although I do have some pix from an old Charleston cemetery where several tombstones have lilies on them.
I adore them, regardless…
You said it all there! How great. And lillies were the first flowers Paul gave to me. I love them and I said “What made you buy lillies?” (because of all the other associations) and he said: “They were the biggest!”
A giant bunch of giant flowers and, you’re right, they scent the room for days. Now we consider they’re ‘our flowers’ but we have smaller rooms in this house and they do tend to dominate the senses when we have them. How lovely and what a wonderful promise to make along with a new tradition. Uplifiting stuff. 🙂 xx
Excellent! I’m glad you love them too!
I’ve always thought lillys to be quite pretty flowers.
I adore them…
These lilies surely smell as sweet as they look! They look like the kind of lilies that are marketed around Easter here in the states. I love them and I like to plant them (the ones in a pot, and after they’re done blooming) in my flower bed, where they’ll come up the following spring and bloom again!
They’re wonderful flowers, aren’t they? And SUCH a gorgeous perfume…
I love Lilies. Arum lilies are beautiful.
They are indeed and they smell divine!
As much as I love flowers, I do not want any at my funeral. I would rather someone take the money they would give to the florist and donate it to a worthy cause. I love lilies, but some, to me, smell like garbage. (I also can’t stand the fragrance of Russian olives and paperwhites.)
I know what you mean about the scent of some flowers…but lilies are heavenly…
I love Lily’s named my oldest Lily 🙂
…they are wonderful flowers, aren’t they? How old is Lily?
I have day lilies and Lily of the Valley, but not true lilies in the garden. They are gorgeous!
…oh, I adore lily of the valley….
